Day of the Dead

Mexico celebrates a yearly tradition called Day of the Dead during the last days of October and the first days of November. Due to the duration of this festivity and the way people get involved it has been called "The Cult of Death." As in many Latin American countries, Mexico commemorates the Day of the Dead on November 1st and 2nd with a ceremony where indigenous beliefs are blended with Catholic beliefs. The Day of the Dead in Mexico is not a mournful commemoration but a happy and colorful celebration where death takes a lively, friendly expression. Blessing the altar, indigenous people believed that souls did not die, that they continued living in a "restful place" until one day they can return to their homes and visit their family. This celebration is their way of communicating with and remembering those souls in a celebration of color and festivities!

Tres Amigos provides but a small sampling of our Day of the Dead Collection here. These items, sometimes referred to as Mexican Folk Art, typically ship for free and are treated with care at every step of the shipping process. Catarinas, Skeletons, Sugar skulls, skulls, figures, paintings and more. They are made of Paper Mache, wood carvings, some are made from Mexican Punched Tin and others of pottery or Talavera. If there is something you want and do not see, please call. If its out there, we can find it!
